Guardian with concealed weapon by accident shoots self whereas at Arlington ISD school, police say

Arlington police stated Duff Elementary School was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mother or father with a concealed weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the father or mother in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police stated Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a concealed weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the father or mother in the leg.

The varsity had early release and students had been released at the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

Based on police, the dad or mum, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and by chance shot himself. His damage was not critical.

The school district stated White was contained in the constructing, close to the foyer space, and not within the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and school officers stated there was no menace made and the father or mother did not have "malicious intent."

No college students or staff have been injured. The mum or dad was taken to an area hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

In the two days because the Uvalde mass college capturing, there have been five cases in North Texas related to weapons introduced to colleges or threats made.

Arlington parents said their minds instantly thought of the worst once they were notified.

No parent ever needs there to be a cause for them to get a textual content message saying their kid's faculty is on lockdown.

But since this week's deadly taking pictures at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can't help but assume the worst after they do.

"Once I obtained the text message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, one thing is going to happen.’ I used to be shocked," father or mother Karima Rasheed stated.

While most occasions, lockdowns are only drills students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, stated that understanding what happened earlier this week made this lockdown totally different. 

"I began seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our teacher got a notification on their phone saying someone was within the constructing," he mentioned.

Weapons will not be allowed on school property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with mentioned even when it was a mistake, the timing is just terrible.

"What are we going to do? They need to go to school, and obviously, statistically, it's unlikely to happen, but you by no means need to be the one statistic. What if it's your youngsters?" Matthew Mitchell said.

Mitchell lives throughout the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to another Arlington college. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve bought twin six-year-olds that go to a unique Arlington faculty and each time I hear there's a lockdown or a college taking pictures, my heart jumps into my throat," he said.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the graduation day for sixth grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to highschool within the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his college.

"If something happened, you’ve got to run anywhere that’s safe and hide," she advised her baby.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is too recent to talk politics, Mitchell stated one thing needs to be performed now. 

"They wish to talk about it, they need to campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, however they don’t wish to really move any laws and do anything," he added.
