Mother or father with concealed weapon accidentally shoots self while at Arlington ISD school, police say

Arlington police said Duff Elementary College was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a hid weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the parent in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a dad or mum with a hid weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the dad or mum within the leg.

The varsity had early launch and college students were launched at the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

In accordance with police, the dad or mum, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His damage was not critical.

The college district mentioned White was inside the constructing, close to the foyer space, and never in the hallway close to students when the gun went off.

Police and college officers said there was no risk made and the parent did not have "malicious intent."

No students or workers have been injured. The guardian was taken to an area hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones mentioned after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

Within the two days for the reason that Uvalde mass school taking pictures, there have been 5 cases in North Texas related to weapons brought to schools or threats made.

Arlington dad and mom mentioned their minds immediately thought of the worst once they were notified.

No father or mother ever wants there to be a purpose for them to get a text message saying their kid's faculty is on lockdown.

However since this week's deadly capturing at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can not help but suppose the worst when they do.

"Once I obtained the textual content message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, one thing goes to occur.’ I used to be shocked," guardian Karima Rasheed stated.

Whereas most instances, lockdowns are only drills students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, mentioned that figuring out what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown totally different. 

"I began seeing my classmates starting to cry and our teacher obtained a notification on their cellphone saying somebody was in the building," he stated.

Weapons will not be allowed on school property, and oldsters FOX 4 spoke with stated even when it was a mistake, the timing is just terrible.

"What are we going to do? They must go to school, and clearly, statistically, it's unlikely to occur, but you never wish to be the one statistic. What if it's your children?" Matthew Mitchell stated.

Mitchell lives across the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to another Arlington faculty. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve bought twin six-year-olds that go to a distinct Arlington school and each time I hear there is a lockdown or a school shooting, my heart jumps into my throat," he mentioned.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the commencement day for sixth grade college students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to school within the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if one thing ever occurred at his college.

"If something happened, you’ve bought to run wherever that’s protected and conceal," she instructed her little one.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is just too recent to talk politics, Mitchell mentioned one thing needs to be accomplished now. 

"They need to discuss it, they need to marketing campaign on it, they wish to fundraiser on it, however they don’t wish to truly cross any laws and do something," he added.
