Through the Uvalde taking pictures, an off-duty federal agent’s spouse texted him for assist. “I requested my barber if he had a gun,” he mentioned.

Jacob Albarado was in his barber's chair when both men obtained textual content messages about the capturing unfolding at Robb Elementary Faculty in Uvalde, Texas, last week. "There's an active shooter. Help. Love you," Albarado's wife Trisha said in three messages at 11:41 a.m.

She's a fourth grade teacher at the college, and their daughter is a pupil there.

"I requested my barber if he had a gun," Albarado, a U.S. Customs and Border Safety agent, told CBS News on Wednesday. He had attended an awards ceremony at the college earlier that morning and was off responsibility, along with his weapon at dwelling.

The barber did have a gun. Albarado took it, a shotgun, and they rushed to the chaotic scene. Police officers have been already there, and Albarado began helping.

"Youngsters are coming out the windows," he stated.

With individuals fleeing to a funeral home throughout the street, Albarado stated he wanted to get inside the varsity as fast as he might.

"I was appearing as a husband and a father," he stated.

His wife let him know she made it to the funeral dwelling, but she told him their daughter was locked in a college restroom.

"I didn't know what restroom," Albarado said.

He eventually realized his daughter was in a restroom positioned inside her classroom. Albarado met up with two officers close to the classroom.

"We need to get the youngsters out of right here," Albarado mentioned he advised the officers. "… The shooter's over there. We need to get the kids out. This is our time."

The officers started opening classroom doors, and Albarado said he guided people to security.

"First classroom, second classroom, third classroom, noticed my daughter," Albarado stated. "Reduction. Huge aid."

He hugged and kissed her, and shortly she was heading to the school car parking zone.

While Border Patrol agents had been on the workforce that breached the classroom where the gunman was holed up, Albarado wasn't in that group.

"I didn't have my gear, and so it would not have been a good move for me to get into the constructing," he said. "I did not have my vest. A shotgun's not a good enough defense."

During a press conference last week, the pinnacle of the Texas Division of Public Security said the college district's police chief did not initially send officers into the classroom the place the gunman was located as a result of he thought it was no longer an active-shooter scenario. The U.S. Justice Division is conducting a overview of the police response.

For his half, Albarado mentioned he wasn't in a position to evaluate the response.

"I know my fellow officers," he said, "and … to me, heart of hearts, I imagine they were doing everything of their energy they might do."
