Mother or father with hid weapon by chance shoots self while at Arlington ISD school, police say

Arlington police said Duff Elementary Faculty was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a hid weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the father or mother within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary School was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a parent with a concealed weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the mother or father within the leg.

The school had early launch and students were released on the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

In line with police, the mum or dad, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and accidentally shot himself. His injury was not critical.

The school district mentioned White was contained in the building, near the lobby space, and not in the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officers said there was no risk made and the father or mother did not have "malicious intent."

No college students or staff have been injured. The parent was taken to an space hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones mentioned after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

Within the two days because the Uvalde mass faculty taking pictures, there have been 5 circumstances in North Texas related to weapons brought to schools or threats made.

Arlington parents stated their minds immediately thought of the worst when they were notified.

No mum or dad ever needs there to be a reason for them to get a text message saying their child's faculty is on lockdown.

But since this week's deadly capturing at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can't assist but assume the worst once they do.

"Once I received the text message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, something goes to occur.’ I used to be shocked," mum or dad Karima Rasheed mentioned.

While most times, lockdowns are solely drills students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, stated that understanding what happened earlier this week made this lockdown different. 

"I began seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our instructor received a notification on their cellphone saying someone was in the constructing," he said.

Weapons should not allowed on school property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with mentioned even if it was a mistake, the timing is simply horrible.

"What are we going to do? They have to go to highschool, and clearly, statistically, it is unlikely to occur, however you by no means wish to be the one statistic. What if it is your children?" Matthew Mitchell mentioned.

Mitchell lives across the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington college. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve bought twin six-year-olds that go to a unique Arlington college and every time I hear there is a lockdown or a college taking pictures, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed mentioned Thursday was the graduation day for sixth grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to school within the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if one thing ever happened at his faculty.

"If something happened, you’ve obtained to run wherever that’s safe and conceal," she instructed her little one.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is simply too fresh to speak politics, Mitchell said one thing needs to be performed now. 

"They need to speak about it, they want to marketing campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, but they don’t need to actually move any legal guidelines and do something," he added.
