More than 7,000 flights canceled worldwide over Memorial Day weekend

The Memorial Day vacation weekend is proving a messy one for many airlines, with carriers canceling thousands of flights worldwide, including tons of in the U.S. on Monday. 

On Monday, 1,634 flights had been canceled as of 11:52 p.m. ET, based on flight tracking website FlightAware. That followed roughly 1,640 cancellations on Sunday, 1,500 on Saturday and 2,300 on Friday. Greater than 400 of Monday's cancellations concerned plane scheduled to fly to or from U.S. cities.

Saturday's cancellations have been attributable to unhealthy weather and "air site visitors management actions," Atlanta-based Delta stated in an e mail to The Related Press, noting it's attempting to cancel flights at the very least 24 hours upfront of the Memorial Day weekend.
