Depp sued Heard, his ex-wife, for defamation over a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Submit wherein she described herself as a "public determine representing domestic abuse." Heard saved her eyes down as the decision was read. Depp was not present in court, but released a statement that mentioned, partly, "the jury gave me my life back."
"From the very beginning, the goal of bringing this case was to reveal the reality, whatever the final result. Talking the reality was one thing that I owed to my youngsters and to all those that have remained steadfast in their support of me," he said. "I feel at peace understanding I've finally achieved that."
