Federal agents entered Uvalde faculty to kill gunman despite local police initially asking them to attend

Federal agents who went to Robb Elementary Faculty in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday to confront a gunman who killed 19 kids were advised by native police to attend and not enter the college — and then decided after about half an hour to disregard that preliminary steering and find the shooter, say two senior federal legislation enforcement officials.

According to the officers, agents from BORTAC, the Customs and Border Protection tactical unit, and ICE's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) arrived on the scene between midday and 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Local legislation enforcement asked them to wait, after which instructed HSI agents to help pull youngsters out of the windows.

The BORTAC team, armed with tactical gear, at first did not move towards the gunman. After approximately half-hour passed, nevertheless, the federal agents opted of their very own volition to steer the “stack” of officers inside the school and take down the shooter. 

Steven McCraw, the director of the Texas Department of Public Security, said Friday that Peter Arredondo, the chief of police for the Uvalde Consolidated Unbiased College District, had stopped at least 19 officers from breaking into the college because the gunman opened fire for not less than an hour. 

Arredondo believed that the shooter had barricaded himself and that the children weren't beneath an energetic menace, mentioned McCraw at a information conference.

Arredondo did not immediately return a request for remark by NBC News.
