Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was launched.

The US tech giant stated its iconic music participant has been replaced by other gadgets, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide marketing, stated: "At the moment, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We've integrated an incredible music experience throughout all of our products, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and throughout Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound quality with support for spatial audio - there is no higher strategy to enjoy, uncover, and experience music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the original iPod and it was the primary MP3 participant that might hold 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a whole new category of digital music participant that permits you to put your entire music assortment in your pocket and listen to it wherever you go," he mentioned at the time.

"With iPod, listening to music won't ever be the same once more."

Related MP3 players launched by Microsoft and Sony did not have the identical success as the iPod.
