BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to participate in a mass faculty capturing that could have included a bombing at Berkeley High Faculty, police say.
The teenager was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Division mentioned in a press release. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no faculty that day.
The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing destructive gadget materials and threatening to commit a crime which can end in demise or great bodily harm.
Police stated they obtained a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a shooting that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence.
Police didn't say if the teenager was a pupil at Berkeley High College.
Upon executing the search warrant, police stated they discovered elements to explosives and assault rifles, several knives, and digital items that might be used to create extra weapons.
At that point, a warrant was obtained for the teen's arrest.

"School safety remains a high precedence for the division," police mentioned in an announcement.
Details on whom the teenager was attempting to recruit weren't disclosed. Police stated this case remains under investigation.
Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens instructed the college's neighborhood that the district was in shut contact with police throughout this investigation.
After police confiscated the teen's weapon parts, the district relied on police experience to evaluate any potential ongoing risk to its faculties. The district communicated with police on the coed's whereabouts.
"As added precautions throughout this era, we alerted our administrative and security employees about this investigation and, as is our standard follow, maintained shut contact with our BPD Faculty Useful resource Officer on the Berkeley Excessive School campus," Stephens wrote. "Throughout the investigation interval, we have been assured that this particular person didn't pose a right away menace to the Berkeley Excessive College group."
The district is conducting their very own investigation on this matter.
The district may pursue disciplinary motion towards the scholar.
In addition, a city hall assembly titled: ' Speak to Kids About School Violence' offered by Alameda County Workplace of Education is scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m.
