16-year-old arrested; deliberate taking pictures with explosives at Berkeley Excessive, police say

BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to take part in a mass school capturing that might have included a bombing at Berkeley High School, police say. 

The teen was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Department said in a press release. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no college that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing destructive machine materials and threatening to commit against the law which will result in dying or great bodily harm.

Police stated they obtained a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a taking pictures that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police didn't say if the teen was a student at Berkeley High College.

Upon executing the search warrant, police stated they discovered parts to explosives and assault rifles, a number of knives, and electronic objects that may very well be used to create extra weapons. 

At that point, a warrant was obtained for the teen's arrest.

"Faculty safety remains a excessive priority for the department," police mentioned in an announcement. 

Particulars on whom the teen was attempting to recruit were not disclosed. Police stated this case stays below investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens told the varsity's neighborhood that the district was in close contact with police throughout this investigation.

"Throughout the investigation interval, we had been assured that this individual didn't pose an immediate risk to the Berkeley Excessive Faculty group."

The district is conducting their own investigation on this matter. 

The district may pursue disciplinary action against the coed.
